CLIENT SPOTLIGHT: Horses with Hope
When Horses with Hope was looking to expand their programming to a broader audience, they recognized the opportunity to partner with Write Connections to assist with program development and pursuing grant funds.
While Horses with Hope has been improving the lives of children, youth and adults with special needs assisting them to reach beyond their abilities through the human-horse relationship for the past 11 years, they realized a need to open their Therapeutic Riding, Equine Assisted Learning, and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy programs to a broader audience.
Write Connections worked with organization staff last fall to develop a grant request for the Equine Assisted Learning Summer program - an 8-week summer learning experience for at-risk youth residing in Residential Treatment Facilities in the western Pennsylvania region the opportunity to experience Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. In early January 2018, Horses with Hope was awarded an $8,500 grant from a local Pittsburgh foundation for the program which will support weekly 90-minute Equine Assisted Learning instruction to 40-50 youth residing in western PA Residential Treatment Facilities. This initial proposal served as the catalyst to developing subsequent proposals currently under review by funders in support of the program during the spring and fall.
“As the founder/executive Director of HWH, or any non-profit, really, we tend to wear many hats. The timing was perfect for us to bring on an outside person to do our grant writing. Maureen was more than gracious to us, meeting with us, explaining details thoroughly, as well as coaching!! Grant writing is a necessity, but to be able to have the confidence in someone that is patient, understanding and extremely knowledgeable in their work and the process, is such a comfort and relief. We are very happy with the work Maureen has done for us and are confident it is just the beginning of a lasting relationship!” Anne Davis, Executive Director, Horses with Hope.
